AlgaEnergy, a global biotechnology company and leader in the development of innovative microalgae-based solutions, has reached a new milestone by becoming the first company to obtain a conformity certificate for a specific microalgae biomass as a component material, after being audited by an independent body authorized by the European Commission, under the EU Fertilising Products Regulation and CE marking (CMC2).
This achievement marks a decisive step in the recognition of microalgae as a high-value biotechnological resource for a more competitive and sustainable agriculture. The certified biomass, free of cyanobacteria, stands out for its versatility: it enables the formulation and design—under CE marking—of a wide range of field-applied products such as biostimulants, soil amendments, biofertilizers, among others.
“This certificate is a validation of the quality, safety, and versatility of our microalgae biomass, as well as our pioneering technologies used to produce it,” stated Estefanía Hinarejos, Director of Regulatory and Product Development. “Our microalgae have already demonstrated outstanding efficacy in the field, both as active ingredients and as final products.”
This achievement adds to the milestone recently announced regarding the world’s first biostimulant certified to improve the quality of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, also based on AlgaEnergy’s microalgae.
