AlgaEnergy has actively participated in the official presentation of BioSpain 2021, the benchmark event for the biotechnology sector in Spain that will take place from September 27 to October 1 in Pamplona. In this scenario, the key technologies for a new economy that will make Spain a more competitive and sustainable country will be presented. Organized by AseBio, the Government of Navarra and Sodena, this unavoidable event will have AlgaEnergy as a prominent sponsor.
The official presentation of BioSpain took place on March 3 in virtual format. After the welcome, by Ana Polanco, President of AseBio; Pilar Irigoien, Managing Director of Sodena; and Mikel Irujo, Minister of Economic and Business Development of the Government of Navarra, the event included an interesting round table focused on the business opportunities that the green transition and the internationalization of our industry will generate. Moderated by Ion Arocena, CEO of AseBio, in the round table participated Dámaso Molero, CEO of 3P biopharmaceuticals; Belén Barreiro, Vice President of AseBio; Richard Borreani, Head of Public Affairs, Science & Sustainability at Bayer Crop Science; and Augusto Rodríguez-Villa, President of AlgaEnergy.
Rodríguez-Villa focused his intervention on the industrial transition model that Europe must follow for a sustainable economic recovery and analyzed the European Green Deal. In this sense, the President of AlgaEnergy pointed out that “we need a green industrial revolution in which biotechnology, with all its capacity to move production systems, is essential. We need a bio-revolution and it is impossible to carry it out without the biotechnology sector, with a strong commitment to R&I. An investigation that must be applied, directly aimed at the market and for the benefit of the consumer”, he added. Rodríguez-Villa pointed out that a powerful industrial transformation must be facilitated with agile administrative processes regarding the evaluation and approval of products that have been previously and sufficiently tested.
Regarding the next celebration of BioSpain 2021, Rodríguez-Villa pointed out that this event should send a clear and optimistic message: “It is time to look to the future and change the production and coexistence model. Biotechnology is the ideal tool for the transformation that Europe needs. BioSpain must focus on the opportunities that Spain offers to lead this change from the industrial model to one that is more efficient, profitable and sustainable”.
