In January 2016, AlgaEnergy became partner of the Technological Platform for Plant Biotechnology (BIOVEGEN), in order to increase the presence of microalgae and their applications in the food and agriculture industries, and strengthen the research initiatives in this sense.
BIOVEGEN is a public-private partnership led by the business sector, and brings together companies of the food industry with an interest in applied R&D in plant biology, including:
- Agroindustry businesses:
o Plant breeders: intensive and extensive crops
o Plant fertilization and nutrition
o Plant protection
o Agro-biotechnology and management of R + D
- Public research organizations
- Administration
Its aim is to improve the competitiveness of the Spanish food sector by incorporating new technologies based on plant biology:
- Generation of joint R & D public-private
- Greater transfer of knowledge and technology to the business sector
- Contribute to the design of R & D strategies adapted to the food industry
- Promote greater public and private investment in R & D
