DKAJITmWkAA7yYIAlgaEnergy participated in a conference in where the document “Manual of Biorefineries in Spain” was presented. It took place in the Ministry of Industry, Economy and Competitiveness in Madrid, last 18th of September. Organized by Technological Platforms of Biomass (BIOPLAT) and Sustainable Chemistry (Suschem-Spain), the event was focused on the relevant role that bioenergy plays in Spain’s bioeconomy, as well as in the circular economy.

These policies are currently being promoted by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness, as said by Carmen Vela, Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation, who opened the seminar and welcomed the attendees. Vela highlighted the importance of biomass as a key element in order to achieve the marked energy and environmental objectives. She also emphasized the essential role of biorefineries as a strategic element of the bioeconomy in our country.

AlgaEnergy’s participation was carried out in a block in which the strategic evolution of biorefineries was analyzed through several case studies. Carmela Pérez Calleja, AlgaEnergy’s Business Development Manager presented our case and business model, focused on resources optimization and obtaining high added value products.

In this regard, Pérez Calleja highlighted that microalgae, due to their rich composition, allow a comprehensive use of the biomass generated for its valorization as high added value products as well as a derivative product for other industries. “The potential of microalgae opens up a huge range of possibilities in biorefineries,” she added.
